My Pay: September 2022

My September payslip is my 4th as a Councillor, a role I have now been in for 151 days. Time really is flying!

As per each month, my pay was £867.67, of which I took home £693.87 after taxes and N.I. I have made no claims for expenses.

HMRC have reviewed my tax code and believe it to be correct. Which is something I had wondered about over the last few months. Essentially, none of this pay is tax-free. Everyone in the UK is allowed to earn £12,570 before they pay tax, as I earn over that in my other job I get no tax-free allowance here.

This results in me paying tax of £173.80 each month.

My payslips are at the bottom of the page.

Workload wise, September was another relatively quiet month. The passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 2nd meant that a number of meetings were cancelled. However, these have been rescheduled and my diary is beginning to fill up again.

I also took a week to have a break and refresh.

Queries from residents have been pouring in, particularly in relation to ULEZ, cuts to services, and leaving parks unlocked at night. On top of this, I have received 9 bits of what I'd deem to be Casework (something that requires full investigation and not just an email reply).

I have a total of 25 queries that I have put to the administration, around various issues, and at the moment it is taking around 25 days for them to get back to me. Some of these are queries for information, such as how much it will save to leave the parks unlocked.

Over the next week I'll be announcing my next surgery date. I am aiming for it to be September 15th.

Rate my performance

I've been a Councillor for 151 days now and I think it's time to check in with how I'm doing.

I've created an online poll that allows you to rate me and give me feedback. A few people are using it to troll me, some are being brutally honest, others are too kind. But, I take on board all the feedback and will be doing this on a regular basis.

Hopefully other councillors will do the same or similar.
